Student Health Service

Student Health Service (SHS) provides general and preventative health care to University of Chicago students. SHS is staffed by University of Chicago Medical Center faculty physicians and nurse practitioners, as well as specialists in sports medicine, travel health, reproductive health, and health education, and provides a variety of services to students. Make an Appointment

Students scheduling an appointment with SHS will usually be seen within 24-48 hours. Appointments can be made by calling (773) 702-4156 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The ER is not covered under the Student Life Fee and will be charged to you and your insurance. If you are unsure if you need to go to the Emergency Room, call the Nurse Advice Line at (773) 702-1915.

After Hours Care

For urgent care after hours, please call the Nurse Advice Line at (773) 702-1915. The Nurse Advisor can assess your symptoms and assist you in getting care.

Sexual Assault 

If you’ve been sexually assaulted, please contact UCPD at 123 (on-campus) or (773) 702-8181, or contact the Sexual Assault Dean-on-Call directly by calling (773)-834-HELP (4357). Learn more about support and resources for victims of sexual abuse, assault, or offense.

Injured Student Transportation

Students who are injured and have difficulty maneuvering about the campus may get assistance by contacting Student Disability Services at (773) 702-7776 or TTY: (773) 795-1186, or sending an email to: gmoorehead@uchicago.edu

Immunization

Generally, all new students are legally required by the State of Illinois to present proof of immunity from German measles, measles (two shots required), mumps, and tetanus/diphtheria (three shots required for international students). Learn more about immunization compliance
