Dr. Monica Vela will deliver a keynote speech in honor of International Women's Day on March 8, a day celebrating the economic, political, and social achievements of women.
Vela received a medical degree from the University of Chicago in 1993 and provides primary care for patients at the University of Chicago Medicine's Primary Care Group. She also serves as the associate dean for multicultural affairs at the Pritzker School of Medicine and as the associate vice chair for diversity within the Department of Medicine.
Vela has received many awards for her work, including the Society of General Internal Medicine's Herbert W. Nickens Minority Health & Representation in Medicine Award, the Biological Sciences Distinguished Community Service and Advocacy Award, and the inaugural Alpha Omega Alpha Fellowship in Leadership Award.
The event will be held in the third-floor theater of Ida Noyes Hall on March 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information, visit the International Women's Day website.
