On August 7, 2024, President Alivisatos announced that Associate Vice President for Student Life, Mike Hayes will serve as the Interim Dean of Students in the University.
Since joining the University in 2016, Mike has been an important senior student affairs leader whose portfolio has included a number of Campus and Student Life offices and operations, including those of the Student Centers, International Affairs, International House, and the Center for Leadership and Involvement.
Mike has made valuable contributions to a broad array of co-curricular efforts designed to support students in their personal and professional development. This has included service on the campus crisis response team, leadership of professional development efforts within Campus and Student Life, and oversight of a number of programs related to free expression, among many other efforts. Mike is a champion of UChicago Athletics and has played an important role in various committees and working groups such as the athletic hall of fame selection committee. In Mike’s time at the University, he has been a strong connector across student affairs and other university units.
Effective September 2, Mike will oversee the teams and activities encompassing Campus and Student Life and will serve as the dean of students in the university working closely with deans of students in schools and divisions.
