Winter Festival Explores Arts

UChicago Campus

From February, 2013

On a frigid Friday, when wind chills dipped into the negative double digits, several hundred students enjoyed ice cream, student performances and ice sculpting as part of a winter arts event at Hutchinson Courtyard. The Winter Festival, which took place on February 1, showcased a live ice scultping demo of a Pegasus, horse-drawn carriage rides around the quads, and an ice sculpting activity, the remnants of which still dot the courtyard today.

The event, which was funded through an anonymous donor with a love for ice sculpting, drew several hundred students eager for a break from studying. Students carved their own scultptures, enjoyed ice cream from a ice-scultped ice cream stand, and watched as their peers performed a capella. Performances were given by Registered Student Organizations including: Unaccompanied Women, Golosa, Run for Cover, Rhythm and Jews, Kojo Daiko, Chicago Men's A Cappella, and Raas.
