Constructing an Indestructible Self: a presentation by Dr. Alex Lickerman

In a presentation from 6-7 p.m. on Monday, January 28,  at International House, Alex Lickerman, MD, will discuss whether resilience is something that individuals can learn. Lickerman, drawing on the tenets of Buddhism and new scientific research, argues that resilience is something we can all take action to develop.

The Winter Festival, originally scheduled for Wednesday, January 30, has been rescheduled from 1-5 p.m. on Friday, February 1. Join ORCSA in Hutchinson Courtyard for an afternoon of ice scultptures, horse drawn carriage rides, activities, and performances. 


Saturday’s MLK Day of Service events full, other volunteer opportunities available

All 200 volunteer opportunities for Saturday's MLK Day of Service have been filled. You can still participate in the national MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 21, by finding opportunities through the national website. Days of service and volunteer referrals are also available through UCSC throughout the academic year.

Foreign students find a home for the holidays

More than 150 international students experienced a classic American Thanksgiving last week through the Thanksgiving Homestay Program run by the International House at the University of Chicago. The program paired students from the University of Chicago and several other Chicago-area schools with Illinois families who hosted the students and their families for the Thanksgiving weekend. Message of support for students affected by Hurricane Sandy

We are closely monitoring Hurricane Sandy, a powerful storm that has already caused destruction in the Caribbean and is expected to hit the East Coast later today and tomorrow. We are aware that you might have loved ones in the area and wanted to reach out to offer you our support. Campus and Student Life offices can provide resources and services for those who have been affected or have loved ones affected by this storm.
