David Hibbler, Jr. has been named executive director of Housing & Residence Life and associate dean of students in the University, effective January 30, 2023.

Housing & Residence Life develops and supports inclusive communities for the 4,500 students that live in College Houses. As executive director, Hibbler will lead undergraduate residential life and housing operations and serve as a critical link to UChicago offices and departments in addressing student and institutional needs.

Hibbler most recently served as the director of Residential Education at the University of South Florida (USF), where he was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations in residence halls and apartments. He has extensive experience in university life, having held several positions in student affairs with USF since 2012.

“David brings a deep understanding of how to empower professionals and is a visionary and experienced leader,” said Assistant Vice President for Campus Life and Associate Dean of the College Richard Mason. “We are very excited about the impact he will have on the University.”

In his new role, Hibbler will oversee 25 professional level staff, approximately 160 residential staff, and 100 bargaining unit staff. He will also help ensure that Housing & Residence Life programs are successfully executed in close cooperation with UChicago Dining programs and services.

“I am excited to join a community of scholars who empower individuals to challenge conventional thinking in pursuit of original ideas,” said Hibbler. “I look forward to creating an environment for residents to live, eat, debate, play together, but most importantly, rest, to fully live out UChicago’s values and bring forth ideas that change the world.”

Hibbler received his Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Higher Education Administration from the University of South Florida. He holds a Master of Science in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Colorado State University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing from Butler University.
