Dear Colleagues,
Michael Hayes has provided invaluable interim leadership to the areas encompassing Campus and Student Life (CSL) over the past year. Today, I am pleased to announce that Mike has agreed to serve as Dean of Students in the University for two additional years. The portfolio he will continue to steward involves many vital aspects of student life, including UChicago Student Wellness, the Office of International Affairs, academic services and learning support, student discipline, housing and dining, the Center for Identity and Inclusion, and more. During this period, he will also work closely with other leaders such as the Dean of the College to help develop plans to address the full student experience into the future.
Over the past year, Mike’s leadership has been a tremendous asset to the University and its students. His experience as interim built on an exceptional career in student services including the previous eight years in CSL, where he consistently worked on behalf of the University’s students–as well as the teams that support them in turn. Looking ahead, he will report to the provost and I as he oversees CSL and collaborates with the deans of students in the University’s schools and divisions to the benefit of the student experience. I am thrilled that he will continue to bring his characteristic dedication and care to this endeavor.
