The United States Post Office branch in Ingleside Hall has closed effective immediately. The USPS had planned to close the branch at 956 E. 58th Street in June, but a computer problem was a factor in the decision to close the station ahead of schedule.
Members of the University of Chicago community are encouraged to use other nearby postal services. Those include the Lake Park USPS office at 1510 E. 55th Street (inside the Hyde Park Shopping Center) and the Henry McGee USPS office at 4601 S. Cottage Grove. Customers may purchase stamps or ship USPS packages at the Office Depot at 5420 S. Lake Park Avenue.
In addition, a UPS Store is located at 1507 E. 53rd St., and a FedEx Office branch is located at 1315 E. 57th Street.
University representatives have worked with the USPS for more than a year to relocate the campus branch, and the University remains hopeful the USPS can find an alternate campus location in the future.
