Dear UChicago Community,
I am pleased to announce that Mark Manderino will join the University of Chicago as our new Assistant Vice President for Student Life, effective Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Mark brings more than two decades of extensive experience in higher education, primarily in the areas of student engagement and success, assessment, and strategic initiatives. Most recently, he served as a Director in Northwestern University’s Office of Organizational Strategy and Change, collaborating with senior leadership to address organizational challenges and lead efforts to enhance structures, processes, and institutional effectiveness across schools and units. He has also held senior roles at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he was Interim Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement and Director of Planning and Assessment in Student Affairs. Previously, Mark served in roles focused on the student experience at DePaul University, Northwestern, and Cal Poly.
In addition to his administrative leadership, Mark teaches in Northwestern’s School of Education and Social Policy within the Higher Education Administration and Policy program and has served as an adjunct instructor in the Higher Education graduate program at Loyola University Chicago’s School of Education. He holds a PhD in Higher Education from Loyola, an MS in Higher Education and Student Affairs from Indiana University, and a BA in History from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
As Assistant Vice President for Student Life, Mark will lead, manage, and provide strategic direction for key areas within Campus and Student Life, including the Center for Leadership and Involvement, International House, the Office of International Affairs, the Student Centers, and operations within CSL’s central offices. In this role, he will work to enhance the quality and distinctiveness of the student experience at UChicago by fostering communities that encourage intellectual curiosity and debate; supporting opportunities for leadership development and personal growth; and enhancing daily student life and campus culture.
Please join me in welcoming Mark to the University of Chicago community. We look forward to the expertise, perspective, and dedication he will bring to advancing our mission and supporting our students.
Warm regards,
Mike
