Learn more about the historic election of Mayor Harold Washington, examine the impact of race in Chicago Politics, and consider the future of racial poiltics in 2013 at a panel discussion on Tuesday, April 9, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at International House, 1414 E. 59th Street. "Race & Chicago Politics: 30 Years After the Election of Mayor Harold Washington" will feature panelists David Axelrod, Director of the Institute of Politics and served as a media consultant to Harold Washington’s 1987 mayoral campaign; Michael Dawson, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Center for the Study of Race, Politics and Culture; Jacky Grimshaw, Vice President of Policy at the Center for Neighborhood Technology and served as a political advisor for Harold Washington; and Will Burns, member of the Chicago City Council representing Chicago’s 4th Ward. Laura Washington, a columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times, will serve as moderator.
