Subject: Sexual Misconduct Awareness and Prevention Training Update

As Provost Diermeier mentioned in his September 19 message, annual sexual misconduct awareness and prevention training is mandatory for all students, faculty, other academic appointees, staff, and postdoctoral researchers. All graduate students, professional students, and second- through fourth-year students in the College are required to complete an online training program. First-year students in the College receive a combination of online training prior to and during the Autumn Quarter, and in-person training during Orientation Week.
On or around October 1, you will receive an email from the Office for Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Support with detailed instructions and a link to the online training course. The program allows you to save your progress and return at a later time, but the full course must be completed by October 25. Students who do not complete the training by October 25 will not be permitted to register for the Winter Quarter.
The team in the Office for Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Support, located at 5525 S. Ellis Ave., Suite 169, is available to answer any questions about the University’s policies, procedures, and resources pertaining to sexual misconduct. Within the office, Associate Director Megan Heckel assists with campus-wide training, outreach with student leaders and advisory boards, and support/resources. Associate Director Vickie Sides is responsible for prevention initiatives, awareness months, bystander intervention programs, and the RSVP Programming Center, a hub of student-run workshops on sexual and relationship violence and prevention. You can contact them at titleix@uchicago.edu. A search is underway for a new Director/Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Students, and the role is expected to be filled in October.
