Subject: Support for the University Community
Date: February 24, 2022
We have watched the invasion into Ukraine with great concern. Our Office of International Affairs (OIA) has extended its support to those in our community who may be affected by this conflict. We understand the pain and difficulty this brings – for members of the University community from Ukraine, Russia and Europe, and others who hoped a major conflict could be avoided.
Please note that the U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for Ukraine. Members of the University who are planning international travel are always encouraged to use the UChicago Traveler resource.
Students are encouraged to contact OIA at 773-702-7752 or international-affairs@uchicago.edu if they need any information or assistance. Counselors at UChicago Student Wellness are available at 773-702-3625, and students may visit the Student Wellness website to learn more about mental health services and for information on how to schedule a counseling appointment. Assistance for faculty and staff is available through Perspectives at 800-456-6327.
There will be a campus webinar conversation about the tensions between Ukraine and Russia, titled “The Context Behind the Crisis,” including UChicago scholars with expertise in the region. All campus community members are welcome to sign up for the webinar, which is hosted by the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Liberal and Professional Studies.
Our community is strongest in such times when we support each other and act with understanding for those who are most affected. Please reach out if you need support or to help other members of our community in this difficult period.
