Subject: Update on Lyft Ride Smart Program
Date: December 16, 2021

In light of input from students and continued concerns regarding safety, UChicago’s Lyft Ride Smart program will remain available 7 days a week from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. through the end of the 2021-22 academic year. We are continually assessing future options for the program and will communicate any further changes as they are determined.

Through the Lyft Ride Smart program, students can take up to 10 free standard Lyft rides per month (up to $15 off per ride) from 5 p.m.- 4 a.m. Rides must begin and end within the UGo NightRide Shuttle Service area. This program is intended to provide students with alternative transportation options during evening and late-night hours. It is available to all currently enrolled UChicago students; instructions for signing up are on the Department of Safety & Security website.

Students with questions about Lyft Ride Smart at UChicago, or any of the University’s transportation programs, can email bus@uchicago.edu. For helpful safety tips on using ride share services, please visit the University’s webpage on Safe Transportation.

Additionally, students with questions about University safety and help resources are encouraged to contact the Dean-on-Call. The Dean-on-Call can be reached directly by text via the UChicago Safe Mobile Safety App. You can also request that the Dean-on-Call be paged by calling UCPD at 773-702-8181. Please be prepared to leave a 10-digit callback number. The Dean-on-Call is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We would like to thank Undergraduate Student Government and the other students who contacted us with suggestions that led to this adjustment to our Lyft Ride Smart program.
