Subject: Update on Lyft Ride Smart program
Date: November 10, 2021

In light of yesterday’s tragic events and input from students, UChicago’s Lyft Ride Smart program is being temporarily extended from Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to seven nights a week. This change takes effect today, November 10 and will extend through Wednesday, November 24.  The Thursday-Friday-Saturday schedule will resume on November 25. We will assess the program at the end of the quarter and communicate any further changes at the start of Winter Quarter.

Through the Lyft Ride Smart program, students can take up to 10 free standard Lyft rides per month from 9 p.m.-4 a.m. Rides must begin and end within the UGo NightRide Shuttle Service area. This program is intended to provide students with alternative transportation options during evening and late-night hours. It is available to all currently enrolled UChicago students. Instructions for signing up are here.

Students with questions about Lyft Ride Smart at UChicago, or any of the University’s transportation programs, can email bus@uchicago.edu. For helpful safety tips on using ride share services, please visit the University’s webpage on Safe Transportation.

Additionally, students with questions about University safety and help resources are encouraged to contact the Dean-on-Call. The Dean-on-Call can be reached directly by text via the UChicago Safe Mobile Safety App. You can also request that the Dean-on-Call be paged by calling UCPD at 773-702-8181. Please be prepared to leave a 10-digit callback number. The Dean-on-Call is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

We would like to thank Undergraduate Student Government and the other students who contacted us with suggestions that led to this adjustment to our Lyft Ride Smart program.
