With the Autumn Quarter well underway, I am writing to remind you of the resources and opportunities available to support your experience at the University of Chicago.

Health and Wellness Services

Student Health and Counseling Services offers medical, mental health, and wellness services across three key areas:

· Student Health Service provides primary and acute care, vaccines, reproductive and sexual health care, travel consultations, and referrals to medical specialists.

· Student Counseling Service offers individual and couples therapy, group therapy, and psychiatric consultations. Students who may need to speak with a therapist urgently can walk into SCS during business hours and speak with an urgent care counselor. Students also have 24/7 access to a licensed Therapist-on-Call.

· Health Promotion and Wellness offers mindfulness meditation, wellness coaching, Mental Health First Aid courses, and other programming.

A full list of services is on the Wellness website. Student Health and Counseling Services visits and Health Promotion and Wellness programs are covered by your Student Services Fee.

Student Wellness Center

The University’s new student wellness center will open in October 2020. It will bring together all our student health, counseling, and wellness services into one location at 59th Street and Maryland Avenue. You can follow wellness center updates on the Wellness website, and we encourage your feedback on features you would like in the new center.

Fitness and Recreation

You can stay active, make new friends, and de-stress through Athletics & Recreation’s many intramural and sport clubs and free fitness classes.

Center for Leadership and Involvement (CLI)

CLI supports more than 400 Recognized Student Organizations across a range of interests, from community service and fine arts to politics. CLI also offers leadership development programs to help students cultivate skills to become effective leaders.

Speakers, Performances, and Other Special Events

UChicago offers opportunities to see leading figures from the world stage. International House’s Global Voices Performing Arts and Lecture Series hosts prominent speakers, roundtable discussions,  music and theater groups, and other guests. Rockefeller Chapel and Spiritual Life host performances, festivals, and ceremonies from many world traditions, in addition to regular worship services.

Support Services

Student Disability Services can help students with disabilities find services and accommodations to ensure equitable access to University programs. The Office for Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Support holds weekly office hours when students can speak with a staff member without an appointment to discuss any concerns related to sexual misconduct, including sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

Emergency and Crisis Services

The University of Chicago Police Department (773.702.8181) and the Dean-on-Call and Sexual Assault Dean-on-Call (773.834.HELP) are available 24/7, year-round. If you are concerned about the physical or mental wellbeing of another student, call the Dean-on-Call or report your concern online. More information about these resources is at help.uchicago.edu.

You can learn more about Campus and Student Life programs and services on our website. On behalf of my colleagues, best wishes for a healthy and successful year.
