Andrea Dieckmann, Career Advising & Planning Services

The Outstanding Newcomer Award recognizes Andrea for her valuable contributions since joining the University of Chicago in November 2009. Andrea took it upon herself to create interview preparation resources for students interested in consulting careers. She has strengthened the University's relationship with our employer partners resulting in 25% more Metcalf internship positions for students this academic year. Lastly, Andrea has devoted her time and energy to the newly created, student run organization, University of Chicago Consulting Club (UCCC). Without Andrea's hard work and dedication, the UCCC would not have come to fruition.

Innovation Award

Lizanne Phalen, Office of Graduate Affairs

The Innovation Award recognizes Lizanne, Manager of the Family Resource Center, for creating a stimulating environment and seamless move of the Family Resource Center to Ida Noyes Hall. Lizanne's nomination letters praise her for developing varied and creative programming from small support groups to weekly healthy cooking classes to large scale multicultural events. In addition, Lizanne has entered into partnerships with some of Hyde Park's recognized leaders in early childhood development to provide extra programming at a fraction of the cost.

Outstanding Service to the University Community

Jo Garavaglia, Office of the Bursar

Jo is the winner of the Outstanding Service to the University Community award due to her commitment to customer satisfaction when distributing checks. Since November 2004, Jo has worked as a check distributor in the Bursar office. Jo sees customers, whether staff, faculty, or students, 6 hours a day. Jo's nomination letter praised her for her helpfulness and positive attitude and her ability to make each customer feel special. Jo's dedication and outstanding customer service does not go unnoticed. Her department has only received praise from customers for her excellent service.

Outstanding Service to Students

Ronnie Rios, Office of Multicultural Affairs

Ronnie is recognized with the Outstanding Service to Students award because she is an ally to graduate students and a mentor. Ronnie is described as having a warm and welcoming smile for all graduate students who visit 5710. She has a genuine, personal concern for students, specifically students of color. Ronnie encourages students to take on leadership and advisory roles. She is passionate and fully focused on the student experience beyond the classroom.

Stephen P. Klass STAR Award (for Service, Teamwork, Attitude, Reliability)

Katy Hardy, Office of International Affairs

Katy works as an Assistant Director in the Office of International Affairs. Whether Katy is advising a student, mentoring other staff members, or devising new processes for more efficient service, she has the well-being of students at the forefront of her mind. Katy's nomination letter applauds her ability to inspire her team with her positive attitude. Katy is recognized with the Stephen P. Klass Star Award because her dedication and commitment to students serves as an example to her entire department.
