The University of Chicago has learned that the undergraduate student shot on Thursday, July 1, while sitting in an off-campus Chicago Transit Authority train has passed away from his injuries. He was Max Solomon Lewis, a rising third-year student in the College.

Steps to Fulfill COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

As the University announced on May 18, all students participating in in-person classes, research, or activities in the U.S. are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 starting with the 2021 Autumn Quarter. Richard McDonough, MD, Senior Medical Director for Student Health, wrote to outline the process for complying with this requirement.

COVID-19 Restrictions Begin Lifting on April 20

The University, after consultation with the Chicago Department of Public Health, will begin lifting the COVID-19 restrictions for College students on Tuesday, April 20, two days earlier than projected, including ending the stay-at-home directive for all College students effective Tuesday.
Extension of COVID-19 Restrictions Through April 21

In order to prevent further spread of dangerous coronavirus variants on our campus and in nearby communities, the University and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) determined today that it is necessary to extend the current public health precautions for students in the College through Wednesday, April 21.
COVID-19 Restrictions Extended Through Friday

The University is extending for one day the restrictions that we announced last week in response to a cluster of COVID-19 cases among undergraduates. The precautions, including all-remote classes for the College, the stay-at-home directive for undergraduates living in residence halls, and other restrictions on undergraduate research and student positions, will be effective through Friday, April 16.

Federal Stimulus Funds for Students

Dean of Students in the University Michele Rasmussen announced the availability of additional federal funding for eligible undergraduate, graduate, and professional school students from the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (Act), which was signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020.
